March 10th - March 25th 2017 Opening Reception : March 10th 6-8pm +81 Gallery : 167 Elizabeth Street, New York, NY 10012 Hours : Wednesday - Sunday 12-7pm Plus 81 Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Samer Fouad. Utopian Dystopias is a visual narration by artist and designer Samer Fouad that aims to address society’s flaws through cathartic imagery. Using photography and digital collage, Fouad explores dystopian environments counterbalanced by seemingly utopian landscapes defined by post-WWII brutalist architecture. Upon closer examination, the simplistic grid systems reveal only the illusion of a sound architectural structure––perfect from afar, but far from perfect. A direct parallel to the glorification of western liberal democracy, corrupted by corporate rule and government oppression. Samer Fouad is a graphic designer and artist based out of Newark, New Jersey. Although his degree is in graphic design, Fouad considers himself a mixed media designer where he implements art, design, and photography in both print and digital mediums. His present work is based in Newark and has been showcased around the world including Tokyo Japan. Fouad has also been featured in the AIGA, Adweek, and Design Sponge. Fouad is currently teaching advanced printmaking and graphic design in the undergraduate BFA Program at Rutgers University. Along with his teaching profession, he also a co-founder of the Newark Print Shop and owns a studio in the Gateway Project Spaces. For additional information, please contact : info@plus81.us
